We have a brand new Facebook page at
https://www.facebook.com/SeniorsHelpingAnimalRescuesEverywhere
So please visit it, LIKE it, and bookmark it. Most important start thinking about becoming an animal rescue volunteer and let others who are seniors know about this unique opportunity. Hopefully many of you are already actively volunteering with animal rescues in your areas. You can still be a part of this as we need experienced volunteers as well as new yes and wanna yes. The animals need you!
Now please know that there are all sorts of animal rescues out there for all sorts of animals as well as specific breeds. So your choices to volunteer with are infinite. So why not volunteer with more than one?
Start thinking about what it is you may be good at or love to do and how it might be beneficial to an animal rescue. Believe me they need you no matter what it is you can do or not do.
Animals need walks, socialization, foster homes etc. Can you man a table at an event? Are you good on the computer or the telephone or just practical office skills? Do you bake or make a sellable handcraft? Maybe you just have a lot of items you have collected over the years that could be sold at an animal rescue garage fundraiser sale?
There are animal rescues everywhere so you might look into getting established with one in a community you might be spending time on a travel vacation? those of you who are snowbirds and live 6 months at a time is 2 locations can volunteer in 2 areas. Many of you have RVs and travel with them,so choose an animal rescue in one of your destinations to spend time in perhaps. The possibilities are endless so research animal rescue carefully and remember you have to be approved by them before you can volunteer. So you need to apply to them first and await your approval. Then you are good to go!
For me this is a passion I hope you too will share. There is no better feeling than helping out an animal in need. The first animal rescue we volunteered with as fosters in Las Vegas when we resided there years ago was this one Heaven Can Wait.

Once we relocated to Hawaii we were introduced to becoming virtual volunteers via the internet with BFAS Best Friends Animal Society
http://bestfriends.org
We were Hawaii Team Leaders and Ambassadors. Visiting Kanab, Utah where they are located inspired us to relocate there for a short time until we had to relocate to Florida to be closer to my 91 year old Father as per his doctors' suggestions. So knowing the power of the internet it inspired me to create Seniors Helping Animal Rescue Everywhere, allowing senior citizens to help animal rescues in their communities.
When you look at AARP and the number of senior citizens and how it grows on a daily basis you can understand the large number of available bodies to volunteer now and in the future to come. So please inform other seniors you are acquainted with about this blog and Facebook page so they can get involved. Have your local animal rescues post a link to their site so others can find out about them and hopefully contact them to become active volunteers.
Thank you all for what you do helping animals in need.

Thank you all for all you do helping animals in need in your communities.
What an excellent idea! We have our own rescue and I am involved with many rescues throughout Southern California and we would benefit greatly from the help of seniors...their wisdom and love is invaluable. I met a wonderful senior at the Doggie Fly Out at Xmas time at the Van Nuys Airport. There were many volunteers to walk the dogs, load them up on planes and keep them warm until they were ready to leave. This senior that I met volunteers at the Riverside Animal Shelter every week. On this particular day she touched my heart deeply as she said a prayer over each crate that contained a dog, that was loaded onto the planes. These animals were all being flown to rescues and homes and it was a sight like no other. We need seniors. SHARE is a great idea! Now if we can get rescues in specific areas to post their links on a specific website it will be great!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do helping animals in need. Is there any way you might be able to make a mention or post the fb URL about this fb page and the need for all seniors citizens to contact us and post comments and learn just where the animal rescues are in their communities? Or perhaps you know where we can have it posted or mentioned?
